About Matt Wright

Matt Wright is a professional recording engineer, mixer, and producer in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the chief engineer at Prairie Sun Recording Studios. Matt's fascination with recording started with his My First Sony cassette machine and microphone, and blossomed when he discovered digital home recording as a college student.

After graduating from Cal as a Film Studies major, Matt applied himself to learning the craft from the ground up as an intern at Prairie Sun Recording studios in Cotati, CA. He quickly moved into assistant engineering, studying under such respected professionals as Oz Fritz, Allen Sudduth, Tim Green, Matt Kelley, Sean Beresford, and the Prairie Sun staff. Assistant work on sessions with Prairie Sun owner and producer/engineer Mark "Mooka" Rennick quickly led to Matt becoming the primary engineer on the majority of Mooka's sessions, and eventually chief staff engineer at Prairie Sun.

Matt enjoys the unique sonic requirements that each genre asks of the studio and the challenges presented by each new recording project. Matt never tries to imprint his own sound on the material, but he does follow a recording philosophy: always keep the technology out of the way, and never fight the music or the sounds - let them be what they are and find the best way to present them as such.
